Hambledon moves back into a tiered system of restrictions from today (Wed Dec 2nd) as the latest Covid-19 lock-down ends and the village shop, church and pub adapt to new guidance.
Waverley Borough, in common with most others in the region, will be in Tier 2 until at least December 16th, when a review is expected. This has tougher measures than the Tier 1 that it was in before the last lock-down, but does allow for some relaxation.
From today the village shop and post office has increased its trading hours, and is open seven days a week, from 8.30am until 2pm. Online shopping continues Monday to Friday for local home delivery. Personal shopping remains as before, with customers not allowed inside the shop but with staff taking orders from outside. Payment is by card only.
The Post Office is open every day apart from Sunday, 9.30 to 12.30.
The shop will update it details on its own webpage and a Product List and Ordering link can be found on the opening page of this website and also at https://hambledonvillageshop.co.uk/
St Peter’s Church can allow a small number of worshippers inside, meeting the requirements of social distancing. Full details of online “streamed” services, including the Christmas period, can be found at https://www.bhcgodalming.org/
The Merry Harriers pub, required to close during the last lock-down, reopens today. But its trading hours and circumstances are considerably different in order to comply with Tier 2 restrictions.
Essentially, casual drinking without food is not allowed. Customers may only enter the pub to consume a “substantial” meal, at which alcohol can be served. Diners cannot exceed six in number and must be from one household or in an established “support bubble”. Multiple households mixing together will have to wait until restrictions ease.
Face masks must be worn at all times unless sat at a table and payment is by card only.
In these challenging circumstances, the pub has announced that it will not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. According to its website its hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 12 noon to 3pm and 5pm to 10pm, and Sundays 12 noon to 4pm. It is strongly advised to contact the pub to make a booking on 01428 682883.
The restrictions also have an impact on staying guests, and those who live in a Tier 3 area cannot stay at the pub. Please look at the pub’s website for more information or visit its Facebook page.
Hambledon Nursery School and St Dominic’s remain open. The Village Hall cannot take bookings for group events, but Hambletots baby and toddler group can continue to use the hall. https://www.facebook.com/Hambletots/
Hambledon Football Club can resume matches at Badger Park and socially-distanced spectators are allowed.
Away from businesses and activities, the general restrictions applied to households means than villagers cannot socialise with anyone they do not live with inside their homes or in any public space. You may meet in private gardens, observing distancing and the rule of six.
