Join us for the Hambledon Cricket Club Open Day – Saturday 7th May 11:30am – 2:00pm

Hambledon Cricket Club (HCC) could speak long about their close history with cricket: the first record being a ladies match in July 1745 when Hambledon beat Bramley by 127 “notches” to 119, or the fact that HCC has been an ever present part of the village and its life from the late 19th Century to date.

However that could perhaps date us!

What hasn’t changed however is our ethos of being a friendly yet competitive community club, open to all comers and upholding the best traditions of village cricket.  We are lucky to be able to enjoy a safe, quiet and idyllic green, held on trust for the village to play cricket on.

More than that, we are about to install a new two-lane state of the art cricket net at the ground.

Thanks to several generous grants and some wonderful personal donations, these new facilities will very much improve what we have to offer for new and existing members – both young and less young. Throughout the season we will also be arranging social events such as six aside tournaments (with a softball), a virtual horse racing (!) event and barbeques, so there is much to play for!

As part of these exciting new developments we are holding an open Club Day on Saturday 7th May from 11:30am to 2:00pm in the hope of reinvigorating participation at the club.

Everyone is invited to a complementary BBQ to catch up with or meet other members of the village community and all those who would like to get back to or discover the delights of cricket.  On the day we will also be running a “parent’s training” programme for those who would like to help out with juniors coaching.

Whether playing, coaching, looking after the ground or otherwise helping behind the scenes, we enjoy being a part of it and hope you will too.

If you would like to join us for the Open Day please register through the following link so that we can gauge numbers for the BBQ!

Interested in playing junior or senior cricket?

The club has both a senior and junior section who cater for all standards. The seniors run a side that plays competitive friendly cricket with neighbouring villages, and welcomes those who want to play every week as well as those who may just enjoy one or two games a year. The junior section takes in boys and girls from 6 to 14 and play a range of league and friendly fixtures throughout the season.

Training for the juniors is on Friday evenings from 6pm to 8pm for under 14’s to under 12’s, Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am for a mixed group of under 11’s and younger, and a dedicated all-ages (from 6 upwards) girls only session from 11.45am to 1.00pm on Saturdays also.

Training historically lasts through to the end of July, but more recent keenness has seen this extend to the dying embers of August.

In keeping with the early history of the club, we are also wanting to re-start a ladies team. It may be suggested that this is nearly over 300 years too late in coming, but there is a burgeoning keenness in the area that we’d love to be a part of.

For all seniors, as well as weekend fixtures (usually on Sundays) we will be running open nets on Wednesday evenings alongside various short-form, more informal matches on the same midweek night.  All are welcome.

Full membership is £70 for the season.  We also welcome social members who can join for £30 and are then entitled to: access to Wednesday night net practice and coaching (at a small additional cost), ability to play up to three senior games (with match fees of £10), access to tickets for cricket at the Oval, and to receive news and updates about the club and invitations to club events.
