Hambledon Celebrates The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with 4 days of free events. All welcome!

Hambledon has pulled out all the stops to bring the village together to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Across the United Kingdom from street parties and Big Jubilee Lunches to concerts, pageants and Services of Thanksgiving, the nation and commonwealth will come together over 4 days to mark The Queen’s 70 year reign.

Hambledon will kick off our 4 day event on Thursday June 2nd with the raising of The Union Jack at 9am at Hambledon Church.

On Thursday evening at 8.30pm join us at the Village Shop for a torchlit walk up to The Viewpoint on Hambledon Common where we will watch The National Beacon Lighting across the South at 9.15pm and shine our torches into the sky to create our own environmentally friendly beacon. Do bring your battery torches!

Friday June 3rd marks the beginning of the Hambledon Church Flower Festival which will run from 2-6pm on Friday and 9-6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please note there is a Church Service on Sunday 5th at 9.30am, all are welcome.

On Saturday June 4th 12 talented and generous green fingered villagers will be participating in The Jubilee Open Gardens. Maps can be picked up from The Village Shop. Do please visit these stunning gardens, enjoy their hard work and take away some inspiration for your own gardens. Look out for the Open Garden Posters outside the participating houses.

Throughout the 4 day event there will be a walking or cycling Treasure Hunt, with clue sheets available to pick up and drop back at The Village Shop. £1 per team entry. Answers will be available on the village website from 6pm on Sunday June 5th. The winner will be announced at the end of the weekend’s festivities. Check with The Village Shop for Bank Holiday Opening Hours.

The finale of The Jubilee Celebrations will be a Street Party on Malthouse Lane on Sunday June 5th as part of the national “Big Jubilee Lunch”. More than 70,000 Big Jubilee Lunches are planned in the four UK nations over the weekend, with an expected ten million people set to sit down with their neighbours on Sunday June 5th, to celebrate Her Majesty’s momentous jubilee. Malthouse Lane will be closed from 10am-6pm and trestle tables will stretch along the road from the Village Hall. The Street Party will run between 12pm and 4pm. Bring your own food, drinks, decorations and chairs and share in the festivities with your fellow villagers. There are 50 trestle tables available but we expect these to fill up quickly, so do please bring any folding tables you have and join them to the end of the trestles so that everyone can sit comfortably. Toilets will be available at the Village Hall.

For those less able villagers who are unable to carry their own table and chairs a table reservation service is available. Please contact Mary Grove on 01483 415815 to arrange this. At 2pm there will be a short performance from the village children followed by The National Anthem lead by some of the Village Shop Choir –  get ready to sing a long! A Commemorative Jubilee Brochure documenting past Coronations and Jubilees through photographs will be available at The Street Party, The Village Shop and The Merry Harriers. Do pick up your free copy.

The Pitt’s have kindly offered to provide parking for The Street Party. Drop any passengers and tables, chairs and food at either end of Malthouse Lane and designated drivers can then drive to Malthouse Field on Vann Lane to park as directed by the marshalls. Drivers can walk up to Malthouse Lane via The Pitt’s field and driveway or can walk round by the Village Shop and footpath to the Village Hall.

For additional information on the entire event please check keep an eye on this website and the Hambledon Community Facebook Group.

We hope you will join us for what promises to be  a spectacular celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and our wonderful village.
