Village Events This Springtime

As Hambledon heads into Spring, with daffodils, primroses and cowslips coming into bloom and bluebells soon to flower, it is timely to look to see what the season offers of interest to villagers.

First up, at the Village Hall on Thursday March 13th, is the Hambledon Heritage Society’s annual presentation. This year it features a talk on the subject of Witley and Haslemere Artists, 1859-1914.

The speaker is Sarah Bain, honorary vice president of Haslemere Educational Museum who will focus on the lives of the many artists who came to live in the area and gained inspiration from its beautiful countryside, Hambledon’s included. Doors open at 7.30pm for refreshments followed at 8pm with the Society’s brief AGM formalities and then the presentation.

Details of how to contact or become involved with Hambledon Heritage Society can be found on this website by looking under Organisations.

The recently-introduced Thursday All-Welcome Lunches are proving very popular and the next dates are March 13th and 27th

This convivial event is open to all ages. Homemade soup with bread and a seasonal pudding is served, along with a glass of wine and coffee, from 12 noon at a cost of just £5. If you wish to attend, please email at villagehalltreasurer@hambledonsurrey.co.uk Lifts can be provided on request.

On 7pm on Thursday March 27th, the Village Hall Committee will be holding its AGM and all are invited to hear what has happened in the past year and of its plans for the future.

The following month, on Thursday April 10th, is the annual Hambledon Parish Assembly., 7:30pm for 8pm start. This is open to all and is an opportunity to hear presentations from all of the village’s organisations and activities updating on the last 12 months. The event is hosted by Hambledon Parish Council and there will be a short review of its past year and the challenges ahead with major changes in Surrey’s local government structure under consideration.  Local police will attend for a Q&A session.

On Saturday April 26th, there is another Village Hall Quiz, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets for this popular event will be available near the time from the Village Shop.

Finally, our community-run Village Shop will, as always, be a popular venue, especially as we move towards warmer days. But it needs more volunteers, and also someone to take over responsibility for co-ordinating its Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme. If you can spare a few hours to help keep our shop running please call in and make yourself known or email tabithawhite@hotmail.co.uk
