Last week we received a letter from Southern Water giving us a cost to have the initial work done to enable us to join the new mains drainage scheme. We were horrified - ?3,404 to provide 9.8 metres of pipework. This is significantly higher than we had been led to believe from some early indicative costs and does not include the costs we will also incur to provide the pipework across our garden to join this 'external lateral'. We have discussed this with our neighbours and raised our concerns with the Parish Council, but would be interested to hear from any other residents who have received letters. As we are hoping that Southern Water will now hold another public meeting, I would PLEAD that we all delay making any formal reply to Southern Water (agreeing to accept the quotes) until we are provided with more details.

I was told it would be 'a few hundred' to connect up the main drain. At this cost I won't be connecting - the cesspit works fine and costs about ?80 a year - or 43 years worth for the ?3,500 Thames Water have quoted you.
