Salt Lane in the late 40's- help? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Does anyone know where is 12 Salt Lane, Hydestile is?

A stranger popped in to our house last week looking for her childhood home from 1947. She was two at the time. Her father (Mr Seedhouse) worked at King George V hospital and she has a photo of their house at 12 Salt Lane... She had driven up and down Salt Lane but could not find the house.

I was at a loss to suggest the location as I thought the numbers stopped at no. 9 Salt Lane (the old Gatehouse) and after that houses were named... Brackenwood etc...

Can anyone recall where no. 12 would be? or if any houses have been demolished in the past 60 years, or renamed?

Here is a photo taken in 1947 of Anne Swetman's home. This looks to me like one of the three wooden buildings to the South of the Hospital gatehouse. ie on the left hand side as you drove into the hospital site. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Anne also mentioned the neighbours: she says " I know one of them was called Marion because I have a book she gave me for my 2nd birthday and it says it is from Marion. It is possible that you have had contact from someone of that name, The Estonian couple who lived next door, I think were called Berg."

Here is a shot from a 1930's postacard that shows the gatehouse (part hidden in centre) the Country Counter shop, and the 3 huts in question..maybe nos. 10,11,and 12 Salt Lane?
