Go-ahead for Fruit Farm Accommodation |
|
Tuesley Farm has been given permission to provide mobile home accommodation for its seasonal workers. Members of Waverley Borough Council's joint planning committee gave their approval by an overwhelming majority at a meeting on Monday night (Dec 1st 2008). The committee rejected an alternative scheme to build a hostel at the farm. It approved two other applications; for conversion of existing buildings to provide accommodation and for the erection of a cold store.
The applications, submitted by the Hall Hunter Partnership, owners of the soft fruit farm on Hambledon's boundary, follow the approval given last year for its polytunnels. Mobile home provision was Waverley's preferred option. The homes can be removed should the nature of farming at Tuesley change and the land returned to its previous condition. Permission will be reviewed after five years. Hambledon Parish Council supported the applications favoured by Waverley planners, as did several local residents who spoke in favour at the meeting. Others continued their opposition to polytunnel farming on land that is designated an area of great landscape value.
