Villager Restores Pub Sign |
John Coleman has restored the Merry Harriers pub sign - the second time he has undertaken the task. This is good news for the village at a time when there is growing concern about traditional pub signs being replaced by corporate branding. John was first asked to renovate the sign some 12 years ago by then landlord Colin Beasley. The years have taken their toll and when Colin and Julie Stoneley took over the pub six months ago the sign was once again in need of attention. John, an artist and teacher, was asked to put his skills to work again.
The sign is painted on tin and John was able to replicate both the original artwork and colour. He finished by applying several coats of lacquer to help preseve the sign. It is now back in place on the post opposite the pub.
