| Hambledon Defies Heavy Snow |
|
Hambledon was open for business as usual today, despite the heavy snow fall.
Loyal volunteers kept the village shop and post office open when many other business nearby were closed. And a big thank you goes out to Jack Gravestock, who succeeded where the highways authority failed by attaching a snow plough to one of his family's machines and using it to keep the local lanes open. Starting from the family yard in Clock Barn Lane he swept all the roads from Hydestile to Hambledon, a great help to the few motorists who ventured out. And the Merry Harriers, usually closed on a Monday lunchtime, was opening to cater for those with an unplanned day off. Snacks will be available. It was expected to be a popular venue for those mums and dads out pulling sledges for their excited children. With local schools, including Rodborough, closed and almost no trains running, few were at work or school today (Monday February 2nd). Public transport in London was at a standstill and information boards at Witley and Milford stations indicated that no trains were running. In Milford, Secretts farm shop was open as was the Co-Op. Many other businesses were closed. Hambledon Village Shop may close a little early, at 4.30pm, as more snow was forecast. Snow had fallen to a depth of more than six inches overnight and it continued for much of the day.
