| The big snowfall: How was it for you? |
|
The big snowfall of Monday provided fun for Hambledon families, with many finding they had an unexpected day off work or school. Although village services remained open, local roads were impassable to many vehicles and trains from nearby stations were cancelled. All local county schools were closed yesterday and remained closed today (February 3rd) Many people took to the snowy fields above the village, as our picture shows, to enjoy tobogganing, snowball fights and making snowmen. Thank you to those who kept the shop and post office open, to those who helped clear roads and footpaths and to the pub for opening early to cater for those looking for refreshment after their exertions. As the national inquest begins over why so many services ground to a halt because of the heavy snowfall, a special thank you to the village Dairy Crest milkman who delivered as normal in the early hours, getting through on treacherous roads where others failed. Most services in the greater Hambledon area were back to normal today although South West Trains services from Milford and Witley remained intermittent.
