GENERAL ELECTION - Conservatives hold Surrey South West Print

Jeremy Hunt held the Surrey South West constituency, which includes Hambledon, with a big increase in his majority over the Liberal Democrats.

He polled 33,605 votes compared to 17,287 for Mike Simpson, an 8.6 per cent swing in favour of the Conservative Party. The result of the ballot was declared shortly before 3am.

The neighbouring constituency of GUILDFORD was held by the Conservative Party, with the result declared just before 2am. It was a marginal seat and the number one target for the Liberal Democrat Party. However, Anne Milton, the Conservative candidate, who had a majority of just 347 at the last General Election, increased her majority, polling 29,618 votes against 21,836 for the LibDem candidate Sue Doughty, a 6.9 per cent swing in favour of the Conservative Party.
