St Peter’s Church, Hambledon
St Peter’s is a warm and thriving church at the heart of Hambledon village, with a friendly congregation of all ages including some lively children’s groups. We are a Church of England church and offer a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us, of any Christian denomination or none. Above all we seek to be a community that knows and loves Jesus and shares his love with those around us.
Where are we?
You will find us at the top of Church Lane, off Rock Hill.
Services
We run two services every Sunday morning, equal in size and with the same teaching programme, but different in style:
Our earlier service (8.00/9.30am) is formal, reflective and liturgical and uses hymns and psalms played on the organ.
Our later service (11.00am) is informal, lively and more spontaneous; the music is a mixture of old and new played on guitars and keyboard. There are also children’s groups at this service.
We use two different liturgies (forms of service) – the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) which is the 1662 prayer book, and Common Worship (CW) which is in contemporary language.
Services:
1st Sunday in the month:
8.00am Holy Communion (BCP)
11.00am All Age Worship

9.30am Holy Communion (CW)
11.00am Morning Worship (with children’s groups)

Children and Young People
Children of all ages are welcome at any of our services. During our 11.00am services in term-time we run groups for the children – the aim of these is for the children to have fun learning what it means to follow Jesus. We currently have about thirty children on our register and more are always welcome!
Crèche (0-2 years); Sparklers (Preschool), All Stars (school years R, 1 & 2), Spangles (school years 3-6) and Godberries (school years 7+).
There are also Midweek groups for the Spangles and the Godberries on Thursdays: contact our Youth and Children’s worker Jessi (see below) for more details.
Home Groups and other events
We have a number of home groups that meet midweek to share together, pray, laugh, read the Bible and deepen our relationships with each other and with God. We also have social gatherings such as lunches and suppers, monthly prayer meetings and annual weekends away together.
Pastoral Care
If you would value a visit from a member of our Pastoral Team because of illness, bereavement or other difficulties, please contact the Associate Minister in the first instance.
Who’s WhoHambledon Church forms a United Benefice with St John the Baptist, Busbridge (www.busbridgechurch.org) and all our staff are shared between those two churches.
Associate Minister: Stephanie CouvelaStephanie is based half-time in Hambledon and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of St Peter’s. The rest of her time goes to Busbridge, where she is mainly involved with the evening service. She lives in a gloriously eccentric cottage called Mervil Bottom, opposite Hambledon Village Hall.
Stephanie originally worked in radio and television, and then after ordination spent five years in two inner city London churches before arriving here in 2004 for a bit of a change! She’s a local girl as she grew up in Farnham.
