2008 Surrey Village of the Year |

Hambledon has been entered into the 2008 Surrey Village of the Year Competition, by the parish council. Judging will take place in June and July and the winning village will be nominated to go forward to the Calor Village of the Year competition.
This is not a “best kept village” competition. Judges will be looking for a caring and vibrant village with a strong community spirit. The emphasis is on local initiatives and achievement.
Parish councillors felt that Hambledon was a shining example of what can be achieved when people work together, giving not just money but hard work, commitment and vision.
It was felt that the community-run village shop; the efforts involved in reopening the village school as a nursery; the building of the new cricket pavilion; the construction of affordable homes; the new church meeting rooms and the current campaign by the football club for new changing room were all evidence of local people pulling together.
A submission detailing these and other achievements has been sent to Surrey Community Action, which is organising the county competition on behalf of sponsors Calor. Last year’s Surrey winner was Ripley.
The website will keep you informed of how our village fares.
