Well at least the weather changed, welcome rain for those well tended gardens, for those of us lucky enough to have them. Much else has stayed the same in these groundhog days, but at the same time life moves on.

Join The Hambledon Village Shop Choir
The Hambledon Village Shop Choir traditionally performs outside the shop on Christmas Eve and at the biennial Hambledon Midsummer Festival event on the Friday evening (the next being Friday 19th June 2020).
The choir is very relaxed and a great way to meet other villagers, new members are always welcome. In December there will be a couple of practice sessions. If you would like to join us please click here to send an email and you will be added to the choir email distribution list.
Cricket Club Beat The Village Shop in Tense Rematch
In a hastily arranged rematch on Sunday, Hambledon Cricket Cub did what they are meant to do and won a tightly fought game against the Hambledon Village Shop team.
The Cricket Club (friendly 2nd XI, not the mighty 1st team) scored 168 in their 30 overs with a belligerent innings of 84 from Woody, aided by 11 year old Oscar holding down the other end. The Village Shop bowlers did their best to restrict them and some tight bowling from Callan McIntyre and Deeg Garrod kept the cricket club score relatively modest. One of the highlights of the day was Andy Falk for the Shop team bowling to young Oscar for the Cricket Club, rumour has it there was an age difference of 102.
The Shop team responded strongly with an opening stand of 60 from Oscar Parker and Remi Trovo. Their demise saw a sprightly innings from Sean Sinnott (unfortunately curtailed by a pulled hamstring), then Andy Falk held down an end, while Callan McIntyre scored a sumptuous 56 not out before retiring. With 20 runs needed from 4 overs the Village Shop were in the box seat, but some excellent death bowling from the Cricket Club proved their undoing and the Shop fell 9 runs short at the end of their 30 overs.
Are Your Sheds Secured?
Early on Easter Monday morning thieves jemmied the lock on one of Mary Caroe’s sheds at Vann and made off with all her tools. There has also been a spate of shed and garage break ins recently in Chiddingfold and the theft of a tractor from a Hambledon property.
Lane End Closure Update – IT’S OPEN!
UPDATE 2:00pm Wednesday: The road has now been fully reopened.
UPDATE 12:00pm Wednesday: They’re working on repairing the surface at the moment. The road should reopen later today.
UPDATE 12:00pm Tuesday: Lane End still closed, the leak has been repaired but the road surface needs reinstating.
As of 9pm Monday Lane End is still closed in both directions, so expect some disruption on Tuesday.
The good news is there seems to be a lot less water about. Sorry, John Tid, your free irrigation is over.
Easter Monday Emergency Road Closure at Lane End
Owing to a burst water main Lane End has been closed in both directions.
The road remains open to cyclists and pedestrians, but vehicles entering Hambledon from the A283 are being diverted via Milford and vehicles coming through Hambledon heading towards the A283 are being diverted down The Cricket Green, past the shop and along Vann Lane.
There is currently no indication as to how long the road closure will be in place.
The shop is open as normal (until 4pm).

Tickets are now on sale in the Village Shop for the quiz on Saturday 13th May. You’ll need to be quick, they sell out fast….

Hambledon Gets Busy
It’s that time of year when Village activities come along thick and fast. To help you keep track, the Village web site maintains an up to date calendar. On the right hand side of the Home page is a list of the closest upcoming events, to see the whole calendar, click on the “Calendar” tab in the menu at the top of the page. Once you’ve accessed the full calendar there’s also an option to subscribe to the calendar, this will create a copy of the village calendar on your own computer or mobile device.
If you know of an event that is missing from the Calendar, please let the web team know.

Pancakes at the Shop – There’s no batter way to spend a £1
It’s almost pancake day again, that crêped up on us.
Head down to the Village Shop from 10:30am this Tuesday and get your fill of freshly made pancakes, with a variety of fillings.
Just £1 each.

Hambledon Village Shop Winter Hours
Please note that the shop will be moving to winter hours from Saturday November 5th. There is no change to weekday hours (8:30am to 5:00pm) but at weekends the shop will be opening at 8:30am and closing at 2:00pm.
Jane Woolley Completes Walk for Loo
Despite almost meeting her Waterloo after a poorly timed encounter with a hornet, Jane Woolley completed her half marathon walk last Sunday. As a result she’s raised over £2000 which will go towards building a new customer toilet for the Village Shop.
Congratulations to Jane and many thanks to all who generously supported her.
