The To Do List – a resident view

The time has come, there is no getting away from it. All those jobs that you have been putting off, are too busy to do, forgot or plain just don’t want to do. At this time of ‘Self-Isolation’ you no longer have an excuse, so, hem that skirt that’s held up with staples, give the car a really deep clean, fix the curtain rail, de-moss the lawn, these are just some of those jobs that will take on a whole new level of satisfaction when they are done. I personally am quite looking forward to having time to teach my kids, I am not sure they agree, but maybe this is our window as parents to get to know our kids a little better, learn together, do ‘stuff’ together, answer and ask questions of them and ourselves. A chance to reconnect with them, the world around us and what it means to live in the wonderful place we do.

Dunsfold Park Exhibition

Exhibition at Unit 217 Dunsfold Park

Dunsfold Park’s Garden Village Masterplan is being formed and the developers have staged an exhibition as part of their consultation process.  You are most welcome to visit.

The exhibition runs on the 13th and 14th November at Business Unit 217 on the Dunsfold Business Park site, and moves on to Cranleigh Arts Centre ( Friday 15th ), Godalming Borough Hall ( Saturday 16th ) and then back at Unit 217 on the 17th and 18th.

The developer’s team will be on hand for questions and answers on the design ideas, energy efficiencies, communal areas, support facilities, and the first stage – the new access road.   You can also ask them to explain how “encouraging” sustainable travel is meant to work.

The extensive detail of the exhibition display is replicated in their Masterplan brochure. (click to view)

New Wildlife Project- please get involved!

The charity Butterfly Conservation have set up a 3 year project in your area to help one of the rarest butterflies in the UK.  The Wood White Leptidea sinapsis has just one remaining population in the South East, and this is found in a few locations around Chiddingfold, Dunsfold, Plaistow, Grayswood and Northchapel.  We will be working with Forestry England, the Woodland Trust, National Trust, Sussex Wildlife Trust and parish councils on sites in the area to create more suitable habitat for the butterfly and link up isolated small colonies.  If we manage to create enough ‘stepping stones’ of Wood White habitat in the landscape, we hope that small colonies can link up, start to spread and become less genetically isolated from each other.

Oil exploration nearby

This letter has been distributed to all Dunsfold residents but its contents are relevant to a far wider catchment area.   It relates to the two Oil exploration wells proposed at High Loxley near Dunsfold, and at Loxhill at the far end of Markwick Lane.  If planning permission is granted it will have impact on Hambledon and surrounds particularly if additional wells are later proposed in their licenced oil development Field which extends from Dunsfold to Witley.

You can find out more here:  https://waverleyagainstdrilling.co.uk/

Milford Rail crossing

There have been a few recent reports from drivers using Station Lane that the rail crossing gates at Milford Station are unreliable.  At least two incidents have been noted in the last few days where trains have crossed the level crossing whist the automatic barriers were up.  Network Rail are investigating.  Please be aware.

Traffic closure at Hascombe – 12th August for 3 weeks

Update:  Monday 12th August:

Whilst closure is booked, the road is open and there has only been an installation of traffic lights today, and no sign of roadwork activity.   So it appears all official sources of information are not to be relied upon.

Update:  10th August:

We understand that the Water works are now scheduled for 3 weeks from 12th August, during which time the road will be closed and diversions in place.

Update:  6th August:

We understand that the Water works are now not going ahead – hence the absence of road closures.  Thames Water will apply to close the road later in the year.

Announcement 31 July:

Thames Water need to completely close The Street in Hascombe to traffic, to enable long-overdue replacement of the water main, between Mare Lane and The White Horse pub. This will be for a month from 5 August until 29 August.   This will require diversion signs to be placed.    The natural alternative cut through will be via Markwick Lane and Clockbarn Lane to Busbridge.   This is unsuitable for HGVs (as is the original Hascombe route).   So please beware that Markwick Lane will be very difficult to navigate for the month duration of these works.

NB.  Proper traffic management requires that diversions are set up to push traffic only onto roads that are the same grade as the road that is closed. Traffic management consultants are not supposed to have B-road traffic directed down C-roads. This is often why diversions appear to take very long winded alternative routes.

Hambledon Cricket Club Under 11’s team report

Hambledon Community Cricket Club Under 11’s team report by manager Dan Kenny

vs Elstead Home Game (26/5/2019)

Harry L. captained the side and rather cleverly won the toss, electing to field we began the match against Elstead, a team that beat us last year. We had several 2019 newbie’s who hadn’t started a game this year, including Ray, Harry, and Lloyd but all veterans from previous campaigns at Hambledon.

The bowling was tight but the Elstead opening pair were good and put on 21. Fielding was very good again, much better than last year. We still have some issues with ball watching (umpires included!) but the team backed up behind the wicketkeeper and bowler – only requiring mild screaming from the coaches to get things moving, we gave away very few runs from over-throws or misfields.

Everyone bowled very well but a special mention for Oliver who took a brace of wickets clean bowled, a great performance, well done!
