DomFest at St Dominic’s – Saturday, 1st July 2017, 12 noon til 6.00pm

Screen Shot 2017-05-11 at 14.47.01

Our bi-annual summer event, DomFest, is fast approaching and the planning is underway to ensure it is a great success!

We are pleased to announce that we will again this year be supported by The Music Works (http://themusicworks.co/), so in addition to the usual summer fete and fun activities we will again be providing an afternoon of live music to suit all tastes, from opera to choral, pop and rock and everything in between. We will also be running music workshops.

There will be a beer tent, PIMMS tent, BBQ, cream teas, ice creams and other refreshments available all afternoon.

Many of you ask how you can help us and support our wonderful school; and involvement in DomFest is one way that you can actively help and support us. Please buy a ticket or volunteer to organise or help with an activity and encourage family and friends to join you for an enjoyable and worthwhile afternoon of music and family fun.

We will shortly be posting information on how to obtain tickets.

Hopefully everyone who came to DomFest 2015 will remember what a fantastic afternoon it was and will spread the word to others and come again this year.

All proceeds from DomFest 2017 will go towards equipment for our new Performing Arts Centre, so please come and support the school and make this an even bigger and better event that the last one.

Save a Life in Hambledon

aed1

Following two successful AED training courses courses earlier this year, we will be running another on:

Saturday 3rd September at 10.30

and possibly a further course, on

Saturday 24th September at 10.30

AED’s (Defibrillators) are simple to use but may seem intimidating in an Emergency Situation.  Join us to learn how to use them and help save a life….

Learn/refresh your life saving skills and familiarise yourself with an AED….. we have TWO in the village, positioned outside the Village Shop and outside the Church.

Training: £20 per person, lasting approximately 3 hours.  You will leave feeling confident that you will not be a “bystander” but a “lifesaver” in an Emergency…..

Please email Jenny on

Superfast Broadband in Hambledon

Screen Shot 2015-10-11 at 18.41.44In 2012 Surrey County Council awarded a contract to BT to ensure a superfast broadband service to all Surrey residents and businesses.  Those living adjacent to the Hydestile Crossroads have already discovered that there are limits to the coverage;  but it was hoped that the up-grading of the BT cabinet at the A283/Lane End Crossroads at the end of 2013 would enable everyone with an 01428 telephone number to connect to superfast.

Yet again this is not delivering in practice and a group of concerned residents is therefore trying to create a picture of where the service drops off.

To enable the group to put pressure on Superfast Surrey to install another cabinet to serve those on the edges of the village (excluding Hydestile/Feathercombe Lane which are being dealt with by a separate campaign) data is needed from as many residents as possible to create a picture of available speeds.  In theory, those living within 2 km. of the Lane End cabinet should be able to access superfast but not all of them can and those living outside that radius almost certainly cannot.

Some villagers will have already received an e-mail from Louise Rhodes asking them to carry out speed tests.  If you have not heard from her, do please get in touch ([email protected]) so that she can let you know how to do the tests.  The more information she receives, the more likely it is that Hambledon will get good superfast coverage – and remember, even if you don’t want superfast, your successors certainly will!
