All are welcome to this special service, where we remember those from Hambledon who have given their lives in service to our country and those still affected by war and conflict.
During this service we read out the names on our war memorials and observe a 2 minute silence.

St Dominic’s School will be holding their Christmas Fair on 18th November at 11.30am. The theme this year will be ‘Ye Olde Christmas Fayre’.
At the Fayre you will be able to buy candles, gift tags, lanterns and other arty/Christmas themed gifts made by our pupils and students, and you can have your photo taken in Ye Olde Victorian Photo Booth. There will also be cakes, biscuits and refreshments.
We will also be taking orders for our fabulous Christmas Wreaths, which were extremely popular last year.

Saturday night, November 19th at 7.30 is the Hambledon Quiz Night at the Village Hall. There are a few of tables left so hurry to secure your table soon. Tickets are available in the Village Shop. The ticket price is £12.50 per person with a team/table maximum of 6 people. The ticket price includes a meal (a curry, vegetable curry or non-spicy casserole type meat dish ). Proceeds going towards the Hambledon Village Hall Fund.

We are looking forward to welcoming Bishop Michael Baughen as our guest speaker to the final Ladies Breakfast of 2016 . Michael Baughen was the Bishop of Chester between 1982 and 1996 and following his retirement has worked as an honorary assistant bishop in the Dioceses of London and Southwark.
We hope that you can join us in November to gain an insight into the life of a modern day Bishop. Michael is known to many of us as he often attends Busbridge Church with his daughter who lives in Godalming.

The obelisk on the flank of Hydon’s Ball, which commemorates the lives of two brothers who died in the First World War, has been given a Grade II Listing as a structure of special interest by Historic England.
The Listing gives protection to the monument and official recognition of its architectural and historic significance.
It is one of more than 2,500 memorials to the fallen that Historic England is listing as the nation remembers the 100th anniversary of the 1914-18 Great War. More than 740,000 military personnel from the British Isles alone died in the deadly global conflict.
The obelisk commemorates Second Lieutenant Laurance Robertson, aged 36, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, who was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 30 July 1916, and his brother Captain Norman Robertson, 40, of 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, who died in a military hospital in Hanover on 20 June 1917.
Our photograph below shows the obelisk following the heavy snowfall in November 2010, two weeks after Remembrance Sunday.
It was erected as a result of a bequest to the National Trust in the will of their eldest brother William, who died in 1937. The Trust already owned much of Hydon’s Ball and the bequest required the purchase of a small plot of land on Hydon Heath and the erection of the monument. This was completed in 1959.
The obelisk can be found beside the footpath below the summit on the south-west slope of the hill. It is easily reached from the lower end of Church Field, through the kissing gate, turning right to the little pumping station and then following the path up hill to the left. Many villagers leave poppies on the memorial around the time of Remembrance Sunday.
The planning application submitted by English Rural Housing Association to build 17 affordable and market price homes at Orchard Farm is expected to be considered by Waverley Borough Council next month.
ERHA is seeking permission to build 12 affordable houses – which would comprise a mix of shared ownership and rental properties – and five open market houses on the site at Lane End between Wormley Lane and Petworth Road. The site is within the Green Belt and in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Waverley must decide if the site meets the criteria to be regarded as a “rural exception site”, a policy which allows for limited development on Green Belt land.
Although Hambledon Parish Council, which has consulted widely on the proposal, continues to support the provision of affordable housing in the village, it has been unable to support the ERHA application for the following reasons:
Surrey County Council has also recommended that Waverley refuse the application, expressing concerns over drainage issues. The Surrey Hills Board and the Campaign to Protect Rural England are among other bodies and organisations objecting to the scheme.

A decision on the application will be made by Waverley Borough councillors. A target date of November 10th has been given, but this may not be met.

Despite almost meeting her Waterloo after a poorly timed encounter with a hornet, Jane Woolley completed her half marathon walk last Sunday. As a result she’s raised over £2000 which will go towards building a new customer toilet for the Village Shop.
Congratulations to Jane and many thanks to all who generously supported her.
The deadlines are approaching for comment on Waverley Borough’s Local Plan and for objection/support of the Dunsfold Park planning application.

Having raised an astonishing £1486 for MacMillan Cancer Research, Eliza and Christie are now aiming to raise £1000 for Hydestile Animal Hospital. Along with a wide array of cakes and bakes there will also be an antiques sale.
A memorial bench commemorating the life of Raymond Smith and his contribution to village life – and to Hambledon Cricket Club in particular – was unveiled at a short ceremony on Saturday September 10.
A planned cricket match between a Hambledon Village XI and a Family and Friends XI was rained off but spirits were not dampened inside the pavilion where a toast was drunk in Raymond’s memory and a barbecue served under a gazebo outside.
Andy Hinde, club chairman introduced Mic Coleman, long-serving club president who spoke of Raymond’s immense contribution to the club, a driving-force behind fund-raising and an enthusiastic and active supporter.
His widow Peggy then unveiled the bench assisted by son Charlie and daughter Rosie. They are pictured sitting on the bench, the first of many who will relax on its timbers to enjoy cricket on the green.
Raymond, who lived at Lane End, died in January this year and his funeral service at St Peter’s Church was packed as tributes were given to his role as dedicated family man, loyal friend and outstanding contributor towards many aspects of village life.
His son Charlie spoke fondly of learning to play on the cricket green where his father was a convivial and welcoming figure on the boundary.
It is planned that the memorial cricket fixture will be re-arranged for next season.
