Christmas Wreath Making in aid of The Cellar Cafe Charity, Godalming

We are delighted to be able to invite you to a Christmas Wreath Making session at Godalming United Church, Bridge Street. We have arranged for two drop in sessions on Wednesday 5th December and Wednesday 12th December from 1.30pm – 5pm.

Please come along and help us make wreaths to sell on behalf of The Cellar. You are welcome to make for yourself, friends and neighbours. The wreaths are made with fresh foliage and natural decorations and are fun and easy to make. We will be selling them for £15.00.

We have done this activity for the past two years and it is a lovely way to spend an afternoon with friends – old and new during the festive season. The Cellar Cafe relies on donations and grants to carry out its valuable work with people on the margins of our community. We provide a warm, safe space for people to come and talk and also have our own food bank. We will be celebrating 40 years of the Cellar Cafe in Godalming next year which is an amazing achievement given all of the changes in the High Street – I have been a trustee for several years and I am always amazed at the generosity of people in our community and it is testament to the hard work of all the Cellar Staff that after 40 years we are still here!

The Cellar Christmas Appeal and Christmas Wreaths

We have been busy down at The Cellar creating Christmas Wreaths with fresh foliage and natural decorations. We are selling these wreaths to raise funds for The Cellar – www.cellarcafe.co.uk. The Cellar is a cafe in the centre of Godalming which as a charity welcomes and supports vulnerable people. We have been in Crown Court for over 30 years providing valuable outreach and we are open daily serving good value hot food and drinks.

If you would like to support our important work by buying a Christmas Wreath please contact [email protected]. The wreaths are £15.00 each and can be delivered to you on Thursday 7th December or Thursday 14th December. They are created on a 20cm oasis base and can also be used as table decorations.

The Cellar also has a Christmas Appeal which enables us to distribute a large number of parcels to the community. The parcels brighten the lives of those of our customers who need emotional and practical support at this time of year. Waitrose, or Sainsbury’s gift vouchers, cash, and also toys or festive gifts and seasonal foods are all gratefully received.

The Cellar Team would like to thank the Hambledon Community for all their support over the years and take this opportunity to wish you all a peaceful and happy Christmas.

‘Chasing The Dragon’ – Guest Speaker, Nichola Hooper

On Saturday 12th August we are delighted to be welcoming Nichola Hooper to be our guest speaker at the Hambledon Ladies Breakfast. Nichola’s daughter has had the privilege of working for Jackie Pullinger, a name many of you may be familiar with. Jackie Pullinger left the UK in 1966 to travel the world and was called by God to get off her boat in Hong Kong where she has been working and ministering amongst Drug Addicts ever since. She is also the author of ‘Chasing The Dragon’. It will be interesting to learn about her current work through Nichola’s daughter.

The Ladies Breakfast is open to all and tickets will go on sale in the Village Shop on Monday l8th July until Tuesday 8th August. Sue Blackman kindly co-ordinates the ticket on behalf of the Ladies Breakfast so do call her on 01428 683871 if you are unable to get to the Village Shop, and she will happily reserve your tickets. If you would like to bring a new guest for the first time, we would be delighted to offer them a complimentary ticket, please liaise with Sue.

Christmas Wreath for The Cellar Cafe, Godalming

Screen Shot 2016-12-01 at 11.15.02Hambledon residents are kindly invited to join in Christmas Wreath Making Sessions for The Cellar Café in Godalming at the United Church, Bridge Road on Wednesday 7th December and Monday 12th December between 12 noon and 7pm and also Wednesday 14th December between 12 noon and 4pm. No artistic talent is required and we will show you what to do. The wreath making has proved to be a successful fundraiser for the Cellar whilst having fun with friends and neighbours.

The Cellar café in the centre of Godalming is open to everyone, with the principle objective of providing a caring and friendly meeting place for disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the community.

We are looking forward to welcoming Bishop Michael Baughen as our guest speaker to the final Ladies Breakfast of 2016 .  Michael Baughen was the Bishop of Chester between 1982 and 1996 and following his retirement has worked as an honorary assistant bishop in the Dioceses of London and Southwark.

We hope that you can join us in November to gain an insight into the life of a modern day Bishop.   Michael is known to many of us as he often attends Busbridge Church with his daughter who lives in Godalming.

We are looking forward to welcoming Annie Sneller to our Ladies Breakfast at the WSGC in August. Annie has worked for many years as a community nurse before diversifying into the world of mediation and conflict resolution.
Annie is also part of the leadership team at her local church providing pastoral care and teaching and has been lucky to take several short term trips, supporting faith based projects in countries such as Ukraine, Grenada, Ethiopia and India.

Christian Aid Week – 15th – 21st May 2016

This year St. Peter’s church has posted out over 250 Christian Aid envelopes inside the May edition of the Parish Magazine reaching over 250 individual families.  Please return your envelope to the box in the Village Shop by the end of May (spare envelopes available in the shop.)  In the past we have carried out door to door collections but it is difficult to find volunteers and we hope this new approach will be successful.

What does the Christian Aid envelope mean to you? Is it just another piece of paper for the re-cycling bin or will you take the opportunity to find out a bit more about Christian Aid? The website www.Christianaid.org is a good place to start and will tell you how this charity has developed and adapted over many years to reach a global audience and respond to humanitarian crisis around the world.

Hambledon Ladies Breakfast – Saturday 14th May 2016

The next Ladies Breakfast will take place on Saturday l4th May 2016 at the West Surrey Golf Club from 8.30am – 10.00am. We look forward to welcoming the Worship Leaders from Busbridge and Hambledon Church who will talk about why music is important to their faith. Roger, Alan and Michael will also be performing so be prepared to join in with a sing-song.
