Hambledon Vets Reserves into League Cup Final

Our Vets Reserve team caused a cup giant killing by defeating Odiham Crocs from two leagues above in the semi final of the League cup. The team were fantastic on the day and could easily have won more confortably. But a Lewis Prosser strike was enough to book a place in the final.

No time to celebrate this great achievement as the final is next week. With all the recent bad weather it is a quick turn around.

The Final is at Farnham Town on Sunday the 23rd for a 2:30pm KO against Rushmoor Community FC Vets. Another team from divisions higher up. Can the Dons cause another upset. We would love it if you could join us to cheer the lads on.

National Champions

Congratulations to our Groundsteam of Martyn Grove and Matt Kiley who were crowned FA Groundsteam of the Year at a star studded event at the Community Shield Final on Saturday between Liverpool and Man City. A fantastic achievement and reconition for the work they do at Badger Park. They were presented to the crowd at half time on the pitch.

A big thanks from all at the club for their hard work on the pitch. Giving the players one of the best pitches in the area to enjoy playing football. What an achievemnet for a little village football club.

Hambledon Football: Champions

Hambledon Football: Champions

Hambledon Reserves claimed the SCILW Premier Reserves Title on Saturday with a resounding 6-0 win over Surrey University. With three games to still to play the Dons sit 17 points clear of nearest rivals Wrecclesham. A fantastic achievement with not many remaining from our title winning side last season. With numerous players making the step up to the first team and a few moving away. The Reserves have been largely made up of players over 35. Still plenty of legs left in the old boys.

Many thanks to our Vets team who also stepped up to help when player shortage hit – Ben Bewsey, Rob Green and Paul Cook in particular. A run of 16 straight wins put the Dons in a great position before the first points were dropped against Guildford United in a 2-2 draw before suffering their first and only defeat of the season away to Wrecclesham. Before they regrouped to go on another unbeaten run. With three games left the Dons will be hoping to conintue their fine form.

Congrats to Matt Kiley, Carlo Moriano and the team on retaining the title.

Sunday Reflection – Hambledon FC

So we should be bringing an end to 2019/20 season and hopefully celebrating some silverware for the club. It was a season that promised so much for the football club. We were fielding 5 sides for the first time in our 100+ history. All of the teams were competing well and there was a real chance of success. We were also competing at the highest level in the clubs history with the first team in the Premier division of the SCILW league for the first time. However with the business end of the season fast approaching the season came to an abrupt end with the lock down coming in March.
