Volunteer at Oakhurst

Oakhurst, the National Trust property in Hambledon can only operate with a team of volunteer guides. We still need more tour guides, as two people facilitate each session. We are opening Thursday and Saturday afternoons, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays, with each tour lasting about an hour at 2pm and 3.30pm. Would this interest you?

If doing the guided tours is not for you, could we interest you in becoming one of our first Conservation Cleaners? This involves keeping the cottage presentable and maintaining good conservation and housekeeping standards. Of course training on specific conservation will be provided. Sadly, we did have to close on just a few occasions last year due to a lack of tour guides, so we really do need more volunteers. Plus if we were really successful in getting a significant increase in tour guides, in future years we could potentially open on more days in the season, as we used to do.

So if you are interested please visit the website to register  https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/support-us/volunteer or contact Camilla Edmiston [email protected] to arrange an informal chat.

Contribute to the village website

The website team are looking to recruit occasional contributors – any budding journalists or bloggers that might have something to say. If you can sniff out a story or two that would be of interest to villagers, or if you can help others to put their stories into words and pictures – then this might be for you. Training can be given on the WordPress website platform.

Contact the webteam for a chat.

Speedwatch – volunteering

The speed watches have been in action in the village for the past few months, hopefully encouraging drivers to slow down! Teams of 2-4 spend a maximum of 2hrs at one of three locations, at times to suit team members. Some more participants would be much appreciated. In order to take part the police require your attendance at a training session.

Please contact Mary Grove on 07792830276 if you might be interested. The speed watches have also proved to be quite sociable!

Hambledon Parish Magazine – SURVIVAL NEEDS !

Jane Woolley retires as co-editor end of May, so the village is urgently seeking either a new Editor or a small team of people who can share the work. For years, John Hindley (16 years) and Jane Woolley (12) have edited the magazine. The village and church magazine is produced monthly, and relies on a small team of volunteers.

Training and support will be provided, and the role divided according to people’s skills and availability. The roles are rewarding, sociable and keeps one in touch..
