
Jane Woolley retires as co-editor end of May, so the village is urgently seeking either a new Editor or a small team of people who can share the work. For years, John Hindley (16 years) and Jane Woolley (12) have edited the magazine. The village and church magazine is produced monthly, and relies on a small team of volunteers.
Training and support will be provided, and the role divided according to people’s skills and availability. The roles are rewarding, sociable and keeps one in touch..
(Role 1) Magazine Editor(s)
With the other editor, to coordinate, edit, design, and oversee monthly publication of the village & church magazine, ensuring it is engaging, accurate, and visually appealing for the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial Coordination
• Send monthly reminder emails to contributors about deadlines
• Follow up with late submissions maintaining good relationships with contributors
• Seek new contributions relevant to both village and church life – finding and encouraging interesting stories about village life
Editing & Content Preparation
• Provide Headings and Introductions to articles
• Lightly edit submitted articles while preserving the writer’s voice and intent (ensuring clarity, consistency, and suitability for publication
Planning & Layout
• Decide the page order and structure of each issue.
• Lay out pages attractively using desktop publishing software (training provided)
• Introduce new ideas for material
• Place and solicit adverts, designing if needed
• Coordinate with the printer in Aldershot
Advertisements
• Liaise with Treasurer Emma Dunn who maintains relationships with advertisers
Teamwork & Training
• Work with the other co-editor, John Hindley, who looks after church life (now aged nearly 88 and willing to continue for a short while).
• Provide or receive training as needed Liaise with the village web team
• Help build a small team with varied skills so the workload is shared sustainably
Skills & qualities that would help:
• An interest in village life (the church life currently dealt with by John, the other co-editor)
• Enjoyment of writing, editing, or design (no professional experience required)
• Basic computer skills; willingness to learn simple publishing software
• Good communication and organisation
• Reliability with monthly deadlines
Time Commitment light to moderate. mostly from home and shared between several people

OTHER ESSSENTIALS
Jane also likes to collect from the printers & to deliver magazines to distributors. She also ensured subscriptions were paid. These can be two separate roles:
(Role 2) Distribution co-ordinator
Collecting & delivering Magazine to the Distribution Team
• Collect printed copies from printer in Aldershot
• Deliver copies to the distribution team and deliver some copies personally if needed

(Role 3) Subscriptions Manager
• Maintain the list of annual subscribers (intermittent throughout the year)
• Manage payments from new subscribers (intermittent throughout the year)
• Manage existing subscription payments (ongoing but main work is centred around subscription renewal time October – January) which requires liaison with Treasurer
• chasing outstanding payments where necessary.
