There is one week left for villagers to put themselves forward to be considered for co-option onto Hambledon Parish Council.

There is a vacancy caused by a resignation and, as local elections are not due until May 2023 and there has been no formal call for a by-election, the vacancy must be filled by co-option.

Parish councillors are unpaid, non-political and their role is to serve the community at the grassroots level of local democracy.

If you feel you have something to give to the village, then please consider putting you name forward. Meetings are held once a month at which consideration is given to planning applications, support for community organisations and to address any issues of local concern.

When the dust settles from the Hambledon Fete there is Jo Kirkland and David Kirby’s music festival “Rejoice the Voice” to look forward to next Saturday September 4th 12-10pm. A festival in a day with all proceeds going to MND and Alzheimers. Tickets available in advance only at thelittleboxoffice.com/rejoicethevoice.
With three stages including a Main Stage, Woodland Stage and Grotto Stage it promises to be a day full of music to suit all tastes, plus delicious locally produced food and drink including our very own Vann Lane Gin. Raffle tickets for the Village Fete prize draw on Saturday 28th August are now available in the Village Shop. £1 a ticket or £5 for a book of tickets if you’re paying by card. Tickets will also be sold on the day with the draw being made at the end off the fete and the beginning of the Shop BBQ at 5pm.

It finally looks like we have some settled weather, just in time. Next weekends festivities kick off with the Village fete starting at 2:30pm on Saturday, the Village Show goes on during the same afternoon, followed by the Shop BBQ at 5:00pm and on Sunday the Church service will take place on the Cricket Green.

Fete preparations are ongoing, we could do with more cakes for the cake stall and bottles for the hoopla, if anyone can offer either, please drop them in at the Village Shop.
Prize draw tickets are now on sale at the Shop, lots of excellent prizes, £1 a ticket.

The Festival Tree has been erected (thanks Dorian), the signs are up and the weather forecast looks good.

Bric ‘a Brac will be sold, dogs will be judged, kids will race. And after all that we’ll all have a party.

Please come along and support the fete from 2:30pm on Saturday 28th August, even though it’ll be a bit smaller than usual and then come to the Village BBQ outside the Shop from 5pm with live music featuring bands of local talent!

Ever wondered how you’d cope faced with a medical emergency – what to do first – can you do cardiac pulmonary resuscitation?
Any idea how to use a defibrillator? – now available in so many locations.
There are at least 4 available to the public just in Hambledon.  Maybe you’d like a reminder? 

Another Life Support and Defibrillator training course is planned for the Autumn. 
Bart’s City Life Saver Charity have visited the village several times and run a very successful session.  This time because of covid, it will be offered in two parts,
Part 1 : Theory by webinar, and Part 2, Practical, in person,  in Hambledon .     

The practical will be in groups of 4, with individual ‘Annie’ resuscitation dummies.   
The charge will be about £25 per person (help with cost is available – don’t let charge deter you).  The charge covers travel from London by trainers plus a donation to the Bart’s City Life Saver Charity.

The co-option process to appoint a new Hambledon parish councillor is now underway.

The vacancy follows the retirement of John Anderson. The next scheduled elections for local councils are not until May 2023 and with no formal call for a by-election to be held, Hambledon Parish Council must now select a new member by co-option.

If you live in or close to the village and feel you have something to offer your local community, please consider putting your name forward. Parish councillors are not paid and do not represent any political party. They give their time to work with and on behalf of the village and its residents.

Hambledon FC are through to the last stage of the Surrey Your Fund as they look to replace their old and unreliable grounds machinery. The grounds team work extremely hard to produce a great playing surface for our teams.

But the machines are spending more time at the mechanics then on the pitch these days. The club are looking to update to brand new machines.

The second Mary Caroe Cup match took place between Hambledon Cricket Club and Hambledon Village Shop on Sunday 20 June. With a deluge of rain in previous days the groundsmen had managed to keep the wicket covered and rolled in time for the clouds to break and play commence.

Hambledon Parish Council will begin the process of co-opting a new member to fill a current vacancy with applications invited from Monday August 2nd until September 1^st, 2021.

The council decided that, with summer holidays approaching and the parish council not meeting in August, it would be appropriate to give a whole month for people to apply. Details of how to do so appear at the end of this article and also in the forthcoming August issue of Hambledon Parish Magazine and on parish noticeboards.
