Anyone interested in being part of a new green woodwork group at The Garden House in Hydestile? We have some green wood bodging lathes, shaving horses and benches. A weekday slot – such as on Wednesday afternoon would work at our end. If anyone in the area has a wood, trees or contact(s) for sourcing wood to be used by the project that would also be very useful and we will need to source some suitable tools. Typical projects might range from simple spoons and light pulls, through to stools or chairs and anything in-between.

This year, Hambledon Heritage Society has invited a long-standing villager to deliver the presentation that follows the brief official business of its AGM.
Stewart Payne and his wife Mary Burrows arrived in Hambledon during the Great Storm of 1987. The village was cut off for days and had no power for weeks. A tree had crashed down beside their new home, just missing the house. Welcome to life in a small rural village.
His talk will embrace the almost 40 years they have lived at Hydestile and have been involved in community life across Hambledon parish, recalling the people and events that have made life so colourful and rewarding. It will be illustrated with film footage and a wealth of photographs. You may even be in it!

The first day of December is the official start of the Meteorological Winter. Even before then, there was a significant cold snap followed by heavy rain and winds. In Hambledon, as elsewhere, frosts, snow flurries and blustery winds have reminded us that we should be prepared for potential disruption.
Thank you to villager Antonia Pascoe, from Vann Lane, who provided the lovely photograph below taken recently, which illustrates so beautifully our ever-changing and unpredictable weather.
Can you help? Godalming Minster is collecting goodies to make up gift hampers for local individuals and families, some of whom are supported by the Foodbank at Franklyn Road year round, and some who appreciate a little help at this time of year. We also receive requests via our local church schools (Busbridge Juniors and St Mark’s and All Saints) and The Cellar Camino Café too.
We aim to make the hampers a real treat and show of love and generosity to those who might not be able to enjoy the nicer things at Christmas. It is especially appreciated if the items are from the luxury range rather than value range.

Waverley Borough Council has opened the consultation on its emerging Local Plan. This is an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the document that will shape the future development of the borough. The consultation is now open and will run until Monday, 8th December.
Your input will help shape the future of the borough. By participating in the consultation, you can influence decisions that will impact the area’s growth and development over the coming years.
The Local Plan is a key planning document that guides how land is used and developed across Waverley. It sets out policies and proposals that act as a roadmap for the borough’s future, helping to ensure that new development supports local needs and reflects Waverley’s long-term vision. As part of this process, the Council has published an Issues and Options document, which identifies the main planning challenges facing the borough and presents potential ways to address them. Waverley has asked for feedback on this document.

Continue reading1st Witley Scout Group are relaunching Beavers in November and would like to invite parents and their 6 to 7 year olds to join us for an Open Event on Tuesday November 4th where we’d love for you to come to the Jubillee Hall to experience some of the activities we run and see what Beavers is all about. If you come along you’ll be able to sign up for 3 free taster sessions on consecutive Tuesdays with a view to sign up new Beavers for the start the new Beaver term in January. Just to remind everyone of the return of our lovely Art Fair at the Village Hall this weekend. With paintings, ceramics, textiles, jewellery and photography there will be something for everyone and it might be the perfect opportunity to pick up an early (very early) Christmas present or two!
With teas and (proper) coffee and homemade cakes served all weekend we will be waiting to welcome you. Admission £2 for adults and free for under 16s.
The fair will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday
