A lorry – possibly taking a diversion due to the road closure referred to in the previous news item – has caused extensive damage as it passed through the village this lunchtime (Tues Sept 6th), ripping down phone lines and tree branches and leaving a trail of debris behind.

The lorry photographed below was seen driving through the village at this time and a resident caught it on camera, apparently colliding with branches and overhead cables.

If you saw this or any other lorry on our narrow rural lanes today please contact Robin McKeith, the Hambledon Parish Councillor who deals with highways issues, on 07886 463498. Times, direction of travel, and any description will help the council when contacting the offending company and to take this unacceptable and irresponsible matter further. This could include reporting the issue to the police.

It would appear the lorry, perhaps to avoid the Lane End closure, entered the village sometime around 1pm along the narrow Vann Lane from the direction of Pockford and Chiddingfold. Phone lines were damaged as it neared the Cricket Green. It is believed the lorry then turned right just past the village shop, onto Hambledon Lane, passing the village hall and along Malthouse Lane.

It then, judging by the trail of tree debris left behind, carried on along Hambledon Road, past the Merry Harriers and on to the Hydestile Crossroads.

If any residents on this route have external security cameras, can you please check them to see if any footage of this lorry had been captured.
