Hydestile Crossroads – notification of temporary traffic order

SALT LANE (C32) AND HAMBLEDON ROAD (C31), GODALMING

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2018

SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL PROPOSE TO MAKE the above mentioned Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in:

a) That length of Salt Lane (C32), Godalming that extends from the western property boundary of “The Country Charter” to the eastern property boundary of “Hydon Cottages”; vehicular traffic will be diverted via Salt Lane, Clock Barn Lane and Hambledon Road.

b) That length of Hambledon Road (C31), Hambledon that extends from its junction with Salt Lane (C32), to its junction with Feathercombe Lane (D699); vehicular traffic will be diverted via Hambledon Road, Station Road, Station Lane, Church Road, Petworth Road, Lane End, Malthouse Lane, Rock Hill and Hambledon Road;.

This Temporary Traffic Order is required to enable KN Network Services to carry out cabling and poling works. These works are anticipated to be carried out between the hours of 08.00 – 18.00 from Monday to Friday, and 08:00 – 13:00 on Saturdays, within two weeks of the six month period of operation of this Temporary Traffic Order that commences on 15th February 2018. Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary closure will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Access for pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians, residences, businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times via the diversion routes described above.

Hambledon Has A New Baby Llama

We are really, really pleased to announce that on Tuesday 30 January at about 11am, the lovely Lucky gave birth to a new cría (baby llama), a little silver grey boy, who was up and running within thirty minutes! He will be named via a competition, so look out for more information on this.

This is Lucky’s third cría – daughter Toffee and son Dylan are already part of our herd, as is Diesel who has become a dad for the first time at the age of 4. This is however the first cría born at Surrey Hills Llamas in our 15 years of operation and everyone is doing well, although they will need some time alone before they can start receiving visitors. We will keep everyone up to date with progress.

What’s On At The Merry Harriers in February

Dry January is a fading memory, time to return to normality.

David Kirby and his friends will be back on Sunday 11th February between 3pm and 5pm to play their wonderful jazz, maybe in couple more months they’ll be back in the garden.

Quiz night will be on Tuesday 13th February. The Village Shop team, strengthened by the absence of Andy Hinde, won January’s quiz, come along and give them some competition. The quiz starts at 8pm, teams are a maximum of 6 members and all proceeds go to MacMillan.

On Saturday 24th February, Jazz & Blues band Honey Tonics will be playing live, with a special 2 or 3 course menu being served before.

Fund Raising for those affected by Hambledon House fire

In order to help those affected by the fire at Hambledon House, some fund raising activities are taking place.

Audrey Collins and Mariola Wojewoda are currently hospitalised in St George’s Tooting. Audrey has a fractured elbow and broken ribs. Mariola is in intensive care suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. Her condition is not critical. Both Audrey and Mariola, in addition to their physical injuries, have lost their possessions and accommodation. Vanessa Swarbreck and David Blake were also in the property at the time and have been severely affected by the fire.

The Merry Harriers, where Audrey works, is providing financial assistance to both Audrey and Mariola  directly and by organising a collection at the pub for Audrey. There is also a collection box at the village shop, contributions at the shop will be administered by Hambledon Community Fund and passed on, in full, to those affected by the fire, according to need.

Major Fire at Hambledon House Causing Road Closures in Hambledon

Hambledon Summer Fête 2018 – Public Meeting

Major Travel Disruption After High Winds

UPDATE – As of 17:39 all train lines have been reopened, but trains are running with some delays.

UPDATE – As of 12:45 Thursday 18th Jan, there is still no rail service to or from Witley, Milford, Godalming or Farncombe because of a fallen tree at Milford, which has caused extensive signalling damage. Disruption is expected to continue until 16:00. You can check the status of this disruption using the following link: https://www.journeycheck.com/swr/search?from=&to=WTY .

High winds overnight have brought down large numbers of trees, blocking roads and rail lines across the county, including at Hambledon Road and Milford Station.

South Western Railway reports that a fallen tree is blocking the line at the station and engineers are working to clear it (as of 9am Thursday 18th). Rail replacement transport is in place.

A fallen tree is completely blocking Hambledon Road close to Clock Barn Farm, so the direct route to Godalming from the village is impassable. Given the scale of tree debris across the area it may take some time before the road can be reopened.

There are long weather-related delays on the A3, M25 and A281.

Hambledon Midsummer Festival 2018 – Tickets for Jazz On The Green

On Friday 22 June, as part of Hambledon’s Midsummer Festival, the 17-piece Junction 4 Big Band (with maybe some surprise guests) will be performing on The Cricket Green. Reasonably priced food and drink will be available from local providers. Bring the whole family (and well behaved dogs). All profits from the evening will go to charity.

Tickets for Friday evening’s Jazz On The Green will go on sale on Saturday January 6th, on-line at hambledonfestival.co.uk and at Hambledon Village Shop. Adult tickets are £12.50 each, tickets for under 16’s are free. But please note that all attendees including under 16’s will require a ticket.

Calling All Fête Stallholders and Volunteers

If you’ve previously helped run a stall at the Village Fête, we hope you’ll be willing to do so again. If you haven’t been involved in the past but would like to get involved, please email us at [email protected] or mention your interest at the Village Shop. Please don’t be shy – we’re going to need lots of help throughout the weekend.

There will be a meeting for all participants at 8pm on Wednesday 7th February in the Village Hall.

Jane Woolley Retires As Parish Council Clerk

Jane Woolley has retired as clerk to Hambledon Parish Council after twenty years of invaluable service, dedication and hard work.

Although Jane is by no means stepping down from active involvement in the village, this is a timely moment to reflect on her significant contribution as she hands over to her successor, Caroline White, on January 1st, 2018.

Jane’s commitment has already been recognised when, in 2008, she was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her voluntary service to Hambledon.

Her resourcefulness – as well as her generosity – was instrumental in setting up the Hambledon Village Trust, which now owns the freehold of the village community shop, and has helped fund and promote a range of local activities.

She celebrated her 70th birthday by walking 70kms in 70 hours to raise £7,000 to fund a shop re-fit, and on her 80thi in 2016 she undertook another fund-raising walk, this time a half-marathon, to raise more than £2,000 to pay for an outside toilet at the shop, for the use of customers including those with disabilities.

At a retirement party hosted by John Anderson, parish council chairman, she was thanked for the guidance and support she had given him and his colleagues. Surrounded by current parish councillors, Waverley and Surrey County councillors and others from the many areas of public life Jane has been involved with, John praised her for her “steely determination, great eye for detail and always ensuring that correct procedures were followed”.
