This year St. Peter’s church has posted out over 250 Christian Aid envelopes inside the May edition of the Parish Magazine reaching over 250 individual families.  Please return your envelope to the box in the Village Shop by the end of May (spare envelopes available in the shop.)  In the past we have carried out door to door collections but it is difficult to find volunteers and we hope this new approach will be successful.

What does the Christian Aid envelope mean to you? Is it just another piece of paper for the re-cycling bin or will you take the opportunity to find out a bit more about Christian Aid? The website www.Christianaid.org is a good place to start and will tell you how this charity has developed and adapted over many years to reach a global audience and respond to humanitarian crisis around the world.

If you have low speeds and want Superfast speeds in the future you would be well advised to immediately check if Surrey County Council have correctly marked you as being in need.  Surrey County Council under the banner of Superfast Surrey have just announced their resident consultation process to assess where they may spend more money to try and reduce the number of Surrey residents without access to Superfast speeds.  If you have insufficient broadband speed but are incorrectly categorised then you will miss out on the potential of future help in getting Superfast to you.  Check the postcode list and maps below and if you are incorrectly labelled by Surrey CC then you should contact them before the 24th May.

Surrey CC’s map  is next to useless and their huge spreadsheet is also unwieldy.  I appreciate that this Council consultation is extremely confusing to residents so I have filtered their data (to just GU8 postcodes) and I have categorised it into just 3 lists to make it easier for residents to identify which of three groups they are in.  I have also created my own maps to properly show the White and Targeted White postcodes.  Check the 3 lists to identify which group you are in and then act accordingly.

White:   Surrey CC state: Postcodes where NGA (Next Generation Access) infrastructure is available with download speeds of between 15 and 30mbps

“Targeted” White:  Surrey CC state:   Postcode where no NGA infrastructure is available or where NGA infrastructure is available but download speeds are less than 15mbps.

Important note:  We are seeking clarification on this statement as it appears to mislead.  Nearly all of Surrey DOES have NGA infrastructure but the key factor is that long lines mean this infrastucture is of no practical benefit as superfast doesn’t work over long lines. So the second part of Surrey’s statement is the key. Effectively they will only consider you eligible if you have speeds less than 15Mbps.  If you are NOT on this list AND can not get above 15Mbps then you should contact Superfast Surrey and inform them that your categorisation is incorrect. You must act swiftly and contact Superfast Surrey before their consultation deadline 24th May 2016.  Unless they hear from you then you will be regarded as not eligible for future intervention to get Superfast infrastructure to you.

An e-mail address to enable Surrey County Council to clarify or request additional information relating to the submission if required.

This Sunday the league XI host Slinfold at Hambledon Cricket Green, starting at 1.30pm.

The weather forecast is for a sunny day with a high of 24C. You’ll need an ice cream from the Village Shop.

Hambledon Reserves fresh off the back of securing a historic Treble have their last home game of the season tomorrow at Badger Park.

The League Trophy will be presented to the Team after the game where they look to keep their unbeaten home record in tact.    Be good to have some support down at the Ground for the Lads.

The next Ladies Breakfast will take place on Saturday l4th May 2016 at the West Surrey Golf Club from 8.30am – 10.00am. We look forward to welcoming the Worship Leaders from Busbridge and Hambledon Church who will talk about why music is important to their faith. Roger, Alan and Michael will also be performing so be prepared to join in with a sing-song.
Tickets are eight pounds to include a full English breakfast and are on sale now at the Village Shop until 5pm on Tuesday l0th May. We hope you can join us for an entertaining breakfast with friends and neighbours.

It is getting nearer-our fete on Saturday June 18th.The start will be outside the Village Shop at 1.45pm when the new bench to commemerate the Queen’s 90th birthday will be unveiled.We ask that children in fancy dress are present here at this time so that they can be judged and be amongst the first to use this seat.We will then have the children’s races,to be organised by Beth Clutterbuck.The Hawk and Owl show will be sited on the Cricket Square ,access to the public being forbidden on grounds of safety and protection of the grass.The dog show will follow in the adjacent arena at about 3pm.There will be the usual novelty classes with rosettes as prizes.We shall ,of course,be searching for the Hambledon Champion.

Then we shall have the Grand Draw at about 4pm.It is our hope that most of the tickets will be sold prior to the fete,as this is important.The money raised underpins the cost of putting on the fete,so please buy lots of tickets especially if approached on the day.This is in place of having no entrance fee.

Finally there will be a Tug of War.First the adults and then the children.

It promises to be a fun packed afternoon,with all the stalls,demonstrations,refreshments,sideshows,bouncy castle and slide,and a few special visitors turning up.

Please come and bring all your friends.All we need are the people and just a little of their money.

Congratulations to Tom and the lads for winning the Invitation Cup last night. A Thrilling match was watched by 108 people at Godalming Town.

Hambledon were pushed all the way by Chobham Burymead but came out 4-2 winners AET.

With the goals coming from Ollie Cummings, Dom Piatek, James Wade and an OG. With Dom Piatek putting in a MOM performance.

One down two to go as they look to wrap up the league title before defending the Challenge Cup on the 28th April now to be played at Wey Court Godalming Town 7:30pm KO
