Agriculture has played a significant role in the development of Hambledon, with the village once supporting several small farms at Hydestile, Feathercombe and Vann Lane.
Life changed, family-run farms struggled to survive, and some were absorbed into larger operations, others disappeared. Happily, Burgate Farm remains a successful arable operation in the hands of Peter and Liz Knight and is an important part of the Hambledon landscape.
Many will have walked or ridden on footpaths and bridleways through its fields or followed its tractors and other agricultural machinery through the village. Now there is an opportunity to visit the farm itself, take a guided walk to see crops, flower meadows, wild life areas and farm equipment. And you can chat to Peter and ask about his operation and the methods he uses.
On Sunday June 11th the farm will be open between 10am and 2pm. There is no charge and no need to book. The event is part of the nationwide Open Farm Sunday promoted by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming). Please visit https://farmsunday.org/about-us
