Following the retirement of Cllr Stewart Payne after 24 years of service to Hambledon Parish Council, there is now a vacant seat on the Council. Waverley Borough Council’s Electoral Services team have confirmed that the official Notice of Vacancy of 14 working days has been completed with no request for an election from the electorate. This means the Council will now move to co-opt a suitable candidate.
Parish Councils are the grass roots of the local government structure and the current plans for Devolution and local Government Reorganisation makes them more important than ever. Hambledon Parish Councillors do not stand for any political party. As stated on the Parish Council’s webpages the Parish Council works to serve and improve the quality of life in Hambledon, protect its character and its environment and influence other decision makers. Decisions made are governed by legislation but guidance on this is provided.
Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the village hall and are open to the public, so you’re welcome to come along and see what goes on. The next meeting will be held on 1st July. If you would like to get a feel for what is involved in being a Parish Councillor please speak to any of the current Councillors. All details can be found on the Parish Council’s webpages, and they would be happy to have a chat.
A councillor must be over 18 years of age and a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth or the European Union. They need to reside or work within Hambledon parish (or within 3 miles). The role is unpaid, but expenses are reimbursed. Full details on the qualifications required can be found here.
Further useful details, including an application form, can be found here.
Applicants are asked to submit the form detailing why they would be suitable for the role by Friday 22nd August. Please get in touch with the clerk if you have any further questions (parishclerk@hambledonsurrey.co.uk).
