The Church is asking for help from across the village to decorate roadside gardens, trees and verges with stars or in the theme of a Christmas carol.
In addition, it is planned to create a walking trail from the village shop to St Peter’s Church along footpaths decorated in the Christmas theme. Then, on the morning of Christmas Eve, villagers can follow the path for two nativity services at the church.
More details and information on how to enlist as a volunteer can be found on the two posters reproduced below. And, at the end of this article, please see some words from Jacqui Rook, pastoral assistant at the village church.
On behalf of the village church, Jacqui Rook, pastoral assistant, writes: “Please come and join with the village to find ways to discover again, the hopes and joys that this Christmas promises us!
“We are asking people to create and display a Christmas theme in their window, or front door or gate – anything to illustrate ‘Comfort & Joy’ or a well-known Christmas carol.”
“There will also be a magical tour on Christmas Eve – starting at the shop and finishing at the church where there will be a short nativity message and music. If you manage to find ten or more displays you can claim your free hot chocolate from the shop (courtesy of Hambledon Church!). And, at the shop, look out for the naughty Elf on the Shelf.
“Pick up a trail sheet from the village shop. And if you can take part in decorating outside your home or on the trail please register your Interest with Jo Kirkland.”
“Additionally, children at Hambledon Nursery School are preparing creative offerings to hang on the trees that line the path up to the church from opposite the Merry Harriers.”
“There will be plenty of surprise in story!”
“We are so looking forward to sharing Christmas with you all this year;
Love and best wishes,
