Hambledon Ukraine Appeal – An Update

The Hambledon Ukraine Appeal has now raised more than £6,000, thanks to the outstanding efforts of villagers who have responded with such generosity.

A JustGiving page set up on March 7 in response to the unfolding tragedy in Ukraine has received donations in excess of £4,500. Another £1,000 has been raised on the card reader at the Village Shop and cash has been collected in boxes at various locations, including the pub, football club and nursery school, as well as on the shop counter. The Merry Harriers alone raised around £600 from a quiz and collection box.

It has been decided that the JustGiving money and cash will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Appeal, made up of 15 leading UK aid charities working in war-stricken Ukraine and neighbouring countries to meet the needs of refugees and displaced people.

The money raised on the card reader will be used to buy goods such as sleeping bags, camp beds, head torches, tinned food, first-aid kits, pain killers and many other items identified as being much-needed by refugees. This can be done using an Amazon link provided by an aid distribution centre in Southampton. Goods bought with card money can be spent using this link, with the items being delivered direct to the centre.

The Hambledon fund raising is being organised by volunteers from various village organisations including the community shop, church, parish council and this website. Please ask at the shop if you need further details. The volunteers will keep the appeal under constant review to ensure that money raised is distributed in the most effective manner.

The link to the JustGiving page can be found on the top right of this website’s opening page. Please click on this if you wish to donate. If you wish to donate cash or by the card reader, please visit the shop or look for donation boxes at other locations including the pub.
